Jessica has experience with and assists on a wide range of cases including:

  • Civil claims for compensation in relation to police misconduct, particularly assault, false imprisonment and malicious prosecution
  • Police complaints
  • Inquests and subsequent civil claims for compensation, representing bereaved families of those who have died following contact with the state
  • Group claims concerning rights to protest, including civil actions for false imprisonment, malicious prosecution and under the Human Rights Act, arising from the arrests and prosecution of political and environmental activists
  • Victim’s Rights to Review cases, with a particular focus on victims of sexual violence whose cases have been discontinued by the police

Jessica has also worked on a number of successful cases, including Konstancja Duff’s complaint and civil claim against the Metropolitan Police following her unlawful strip search, after which the police apologised for the ‘sexist, derogatory and unacceptable language’ used by officers.

She is also assisting on the Supreme Court case of Maguire v HM Senior Coroner for Blackpool and Fylde, appealing the decision that Article 2 (right to life) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) was not engaged where a vulnerable woman with learning disabilities tragically died whilst living in residential care in 2017.

Jessica has experience of claims for compensation arising from unlawful stop and searches and wrongful arrests, supporting a number of clients in claims for assault, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, misfeasance, discrimination claims under the Equality Act 2010, and for breaches of the Human Rights Act 1998.

Prior to joining Bindmans, Jessica supported protesters as a legal observer for Black Protest Legal Support. She also completed an internship with Lawyers Without Borders, assisting in a presentation to the UN Convention on Women’s Rights in 2019.
