Annie Leach writes for International Family Law Journal on impact of war in Ukraine on child abduction cases

2 mins

Annie Leach, a solicitor in our Family law team, has had an article published in the International Family Law Journal, a leading publication for family law practitioners and academics on issues of family law as it affects families and individuals across Europe and the rest of the world.

In her article, Annie discusses how different jurisdictions have grappled with the displacement of children by consequence of their fleeing Ukraine. She reviews cases concerning the return of children from Ukraine in accordance with the 1980 Hague Convention on the civil aspects of international child abduction.

She seeks to analyse the approach of courts in England and other convention states, and highlights the conflict between abiding by the principles of the Convention in returning children to Ukraine in the context of the current war and the associated humanitarian issues that arise as a result.

Annie says: “A big thank you to the editors for giving me the opportunity to provide my analysis/stream of consciousness.  Particularly due to being within my first two years of qualification, I feel pretty proud of the work that went into this and achievement of having the article published.”

The article is referenced on the Family Law website here.
