Tamsin Allen, Head of our Media and Information Law team, has spoken in a detailed interview with Hacked Off, a campaign fighting for a free and accountable press.

From 2015 Tamsin has acted for a woman in her privacy cases against the Metropolitan police and various newspapers, following the publication of the details of this woman’s sexual assault, disclosed in an interview with police officers, in national newspapers. The case raised important issues of police corruption and press accountability. 

Tamsin says there was:

… a general awareness that police were involved in selling stories to the press or leaking stories to the press, usually for the money.

In her interview, Tamsin also goes on to discuss how police behaviour has changed since this incident, the importance of independent press regulation, and how great the need is for Leveson Part Two.
