Administrative Assistant – Public Law and Human Rights Department (Education and Court of Protection/Mental Health teams)

We are seeking to recruit a resourceful and committed Administrative Assistant to work within the Education and Court of Protection/Mental Health teams which are part of our Public Law Department. The role consists of providing administrative support to the team’s solicitors and Personal Assistant specialising in Court of Protection, Mental Health, Community Care and Education law. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain new skills and experience within a law firm.

Prior experience within a law firm is not required and the role is for an individual who wants a career in administrative support work and who is not seeking to become a lawyer. Paralegal opportunities are available for those wishing to pursue a career in law. The administrative assistant role might suit an individual leaving college or an individual who has previously worked as an administrative assistant in a different sector.

  • Assisting with the preparation of bundles of documents for the department’s solicitors, Court, Counsel and/or experts
  • File and diary management
  • Electronic and paper filing
  • Printing, sorting and filing emails
  • Becoming familiar with and observing the internal requirements of the firm as to file opening and closure procedures, both electronically and manually
  • Assisting with the department’s archiving as directed by the department’s Personal Assistant
  • Becoming familiar with the firm’s accounting procedures, and the maintenance of all necessary records and any other administrative requirements
  • (subject to the needs of the team) handling new enquiries from members of the public seeking assistance.

Essential:

  • Experience in administration which has helped develop transferrable skills needed to handle complex information and interact effectively with colleagues and the public (essential)
  • Good typing skills
  • Strong IT skills
  • Legal experience and knowledge of legal aid procedures is not essential but are an advantage.
  • Experience in administration from any sector (legal experience is not required).
  • You will need to have an interest in the areas of law we practice and be enthusiastic with good communication.
  • You should have a flexible and professional attitude and the ability to work quickly under pressure.
  • A flexible, professional attitude with a desire to build a long-term career in administrative support.
