Play a vital support role in cutting edge education, human rights and public law litigation

Position Summary Statement:
We are seeking to recruit a paralegal within our Education Team, which is a sub division of the Public Law & Human Rights Department. The Education team specialises in all aspects of education law including special educational needs, exclusion and safeguarding issues. The work involves maintained and independent schools as well as universities and our solicitors have acted in many of the leading cases. The post holder will primarily support the Head of the Education Team whose work includes cases which have an overlap between education and social care in the Administrative Court and the Court of Protection too.
The post holder may ultimately be considered for a training contract at the firm following an internal recruitment process (though there can be no guarantee of a trainee vacancy).
Overview of key responsibilities
The role will consist of:
- handling new enquiries,
- assisting fee earners with case preparation and file administration,
- preparing and managing funding applications to the Legal Aid Agency,
- undertaking legal research,
- preparing draft documents including witness statements and schedules,
- drafting aspects of advice,
- processing evidence,
- preparing, collating and ordering documentation,
- attending conferences and court.
skills/knowledge requirements
Essential:
- good legal qualifications,
- legal professional experience,
- knowledge of public and human rights law, as well as legal aid funding are desirable.
- You will also need to :
- be highly motivated, proactive, self-servicing and enthusiastic;
- have excellent drafting, communication, organisation and administrative skills,
- have a flexible and professional attitude,
- have an ability to work on confidential matters and under pressure together with a keen eye for detail.
