The firm was established in 1974 by leading human rights and civil liberties lawyer Sir Geoffrey Bindman QC (Hon) who envisioned a law firm committed to make a difference not only in cases for commercial and institutional clients but also those involving the rights, freedoms and reputations of ordinary people. From the start, the firm was determined to provide the same, exceptional level of service to all, delivered by the most talented lawyers practicing in their specialist fields and so to promote  fairness and access to justice in the legal system. 45 years ago, lawyers who practiced in this way were uncommon, and there were few firms prepared to take on the type of ground-breaking cases Bindmans became known for.  

Today, as in the early years of Bindmans, we act for forward-thinking businesses, regulators, charities, NGOs, campaigning groups and professional bodies – including our own, the Law Society – along with MPs and peers. Just as importantly, we still act for individuals with employment or disciplinary disputes, those accused of crimes from serious fraud to high profile protests, those who have been injured accidentally or deliberately, for bereaved families, for those wrongly libelled or defamed, for those seeking care or support because they are ill or vulnerable in other ways, and for those who want to enter or remain in the UK whether to create new jobs with their businesses or because they are fleeing persecution. We handle individuals’ most sensitive personal affairs, whether family disputes or trusts, wills and probate matters, with skill, discretion and tact. We remain equipped to take forward, and win, our clients’ court cases, whether they are heard by Magistrates’ or  tribunals, or by the Supreme Court, European Court of Justice or the European Court of Human Rights. Many of our lawyers are recognised as national leaders in their fields, just as our founding partners were. As a firm we nurture the environment where our people can think creatively, look for innovative solutions and fulfil their potential.

Across the decades Bindmans has grown. We feel privileged to support many more clients with their personal and business needs, guarding their interests and working alongside them as trusted advisors. And we have expanded the range of difference-making legal services we offer. The firm is proud to have amassed numerous awards throughout the years, as well as achieving top rankings in the leading legal directories, recognising the impact our innovative approach to the law has. But we are prouder still to have helped changed clients’ lives and the law for the better, and to have remained true to our core values.
