Liz Barratt, Joint Head of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality team at Bindmans LLP, has been quoted in an article published by the International Bar Association.
The piece discusses growing concerns over the ‘inhumane’ housing conditions for asylum seekers in the UK, and the Home Office’s proposed changes to immigration policies. Leaked information regarding these changes includes plans to process claimants offshore, as Australia does.
Commenting on this, Liz Barratt said:
If that’s what we’re looking to then shame on us… We are signatories to the Refugee Convention and that really is not in the spirit of the Convention.
