Guests from across the family and children law world joined us at the Greenwood Theatre for a lecture and reception last night, in memory of Bindmans’ partner Katherine Gieve. Katherine was one of the country’s leading legal advocates for children in numerous ground-breaking cases.
Baroness Hale of Richmond, former President of the Supreme Court, delivered a lecture on children’s rights. Sir Andrew McFarlane, President of the Family Division, spoke about Katherine and her work, and on the topic of child sexual abuse.
Held in aid of the charity Pause, we heard from Jules Hillier, Chief Executive of Pause, a national charity which meant so much to Katherine and of which she was a trustee. Pause works to improve the lives of women who have had – or are at risk of having – more than one child removed from their care. In a short film we also heard movingly from Karina Graham about how Pause has helped her to transform her life and how the charity makes such a huge difference to the women it helps. Watch Karina’s short film here.
The evening was hosted by Selena Ludick, head of our Family team. As well as Katherine’s friends and family, colleagues from Bindmans and the team at Pause, we were joined by people from across the family and children law world.
Our fundraising page for Pause can be found here.
