Bindmans LLP announces two Public Law team promotions

We are delighted to announce that Salima Budhani and Karen May have been promoted to become partners in the Bindmans LLP Public Law team.

Throughout their time at the firm, both have made huge contributions, working on cases that have had a lasting positive impact, while supporting and mentoring fellow colleagues. As partners, they will now have a critical role in the Public Law team’s further development and we look forward to seeing the impact they will have.

Salima Budhani

Salima Budhani is an extremely experienced and well-regarded solicitor, having been recognised in both Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500 since 2016, and ranking as a ‘Star Associate’ in Chambers and Partners for the last three years. Alongside her regulatory public law practice, Salima is frequently instructed in applications for judicial review and other public law matters by NGOs and representative organisations, as well as by individuals. She regularly acts in cases arising in the criminal justice and immigration contexts, as well as in matters involving discrimination law, information law, healthcare law and animal welfare. For several years, she has been a pioneer in the TOEIC litigation representing overseas students detrimentally affected by Home Office action.

Karen May

Karen May is a highly regarded lawyer, and Head of the Education team at Bindmans. She is described by the Legal 500 2022 guide as having “vast experience and in-depth knowledge of the education sector. She is astute and knows what points will work. Excellent emotional intelligence in dealing with clients on sensitive topics”. Her specialism is judicial review and tribunal cases, with a particular focus upon education law and community care law judicial reviews, and she has acted in many leading education law judicial review cases in the High Court and Court of Appeal concerning vulnerable children. Court of Protection work also makes up a significant part of Karen’s practice, particularly in relation to personal welfare matters for young adults with learning disabilities. Karen is instructed by the Official Solicitor, professional litigation friends and family members in complex Court of Protection cases including providing representation in the Court of Appeal. She has also acted in a number of cases concerning breaches under the Human Rights Act 1998 and discrimination under the Equality Act 2010. She has secured favourable financial settlements for clients in a number of these cases.
