Katie Wheatley, Head of our Crime, Fraud and Regulatory team, has been quoted in an article published by The Times.

Last week, the Court of Appeal cleared the convictions of 39 sub-postmasters and sub-post office workers involved in the Post Office IT scandal, correcting a miscarriage of justice that had lasted nearly 20 years.

On the question of accountability following on from the appeals, Katie commented:

This is about much more than the actions of individual actors — this was a corporate and systemic failure at many levels, involving callous misuse and abuse of the state’s justice system. 

The only way that all the lessons of this monumental injustice can be learnt is for the government to set up a public inquiry.
