We are shocked and saddened to hear of Jonathan Cooper’s death at the weekend. Solicitors here at Bindmans have been working closely with Jonathan in recent months on the case of Biafran independence activist Nnamdi Okwu Kanu, but some of us have known Jonathan for many years dating back to his pioneering work at JUSTICE and later as the Human Dignity Trust’s founder and CEO.

Jonathan was unique – clever certainly – but also committed, creative and compassionate in equal measure – a rare combination, especially in a lawyer. His passion, above all, was bringing humanity to human rights and equality work and, with tireless enthusiasm, taking others along with him.
