Head of Bindmans’ business immigration team, Tanya Goldfarb, has provided commentary for an article in Global Mobility Lawyer about flaws in the UK’s Skilled Worker visa system and the impact on high-skill sectors.
The article refers to a recent report by Centuro Global which shines a spotlight on “a series of flaws in the current visa programme which it says is exacerbating talent shortages and causing financial damages to businesses”.
When asked about the proposed Growth Visa addressing gaps left by the Skilled Worker visa, Tanya says:
We don’t necessarily want to put the cart before the horse. The Home Office should first focus on prioritising the rolled-out digitalisation of the immigration system and ensuring it works properly and is accessible to all.
Beyond that, the existing visa options should be reviewed as a whole through the lens of stimulating growth in the UK across all sectors and regions. This would mean an expansion of visa routes and in that context, the efficacy of the Growth Visa could be properly assessed.
