Lodovica Degan

Lodovica is a Solicitor in our Crime, Fraud and Regulatory team.

Lodovica has extensive experience working on a diverse range of general crime cases, protest cases, and extradition matters. She assists clients at all stages of the criminal justice process, from the initial investigation to trial in both the Magistrates and Crown Court. Lodovica also has experience representing clients appealing their convictions, which includes bringing a successful out of time appeal in the Court of Appeal and preparing a variety of extradition appeals in the High Court.

She has acted for clients accused of complex and serious offences including fraud, offences against the person, sexual offences, theft-related offences, firearm offences, possession of false identity documents, and criminal damage.

She also has experience defending protest-related prosecutions and successfully represented environmental and social justice protesters from a variety of movements such as Just Stop Oil, Extinction Rebellion, and Black Lives Matter.

Lodovica has a particular interest in cases with a multi-jurisdictional element and has worked on a variety of extradition requests from Category 1 and Category 2 territories. These included extradition requests from India, Poland, and Spain where human rights arguments were raised in relation to the right to a fair trial, prison conditions, and the right to a private and family life.

Education and Career
  • Lodovica graduated from the University of Warwick in 2018 with a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
  • In 2019, she completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP University with a Distinction.
  • She then worked in the employment team of an American/English firm where she assisted on a variety of civil claims including disability discrimination, sexual harassment, and unequal pay claims. She also worked in the team dealing with historical claims of child sexual abuse.
  • In 2021, she completed the LLM Legal Practice Course at BPP University with a Distinction.
  • She joined Bindmans as a Paralegal in September 2021 and became a Trainee Solicitor in March 2023. As a Trainee Solicitor, she worked in the Crime, Fraud and Regulatory team, and the Public Law and Human Rights team.
  • Lodovica has undertaken a range of voluntary work to provide support to refugees both in Greece and Italy.
